The owner of Mallory Park circuit has gone into administration. The circuit may close.

The management blames the locals. People are telling me the circuit management antagonised the locals. Whoever is to blame this isn't good. Mallory attracts decent crowds but can't run a proper business due to the terms of a Noise Notice which restricts racing and testing activities.

The circuit has been in existence since 1956. Any locals under the age of 57, or who moved there since 1957, should think about who was there first.

I'd love a racing circuit near my house. How about you?

Well, it's not the most exciting route by any means (I watched a 2CV race where they only had to lift off to brake for the hairpin), but the UK having fewer racing circuits would be a bad thing.

I also don't get why people would move close to a race track if they hate noise. If you made a point to avoid living next to an airport, how hard would it have been to avoid a race track?! Britain's not that small...

I had a few passenger laps in an MG Maestro race car! It was pretty awesome barreling round Gerrards, and the hairpin and Devil's Elbow were good. Aside from that I'd agree it's not the best circuit, but the loss of any race circuit isn't great

Shit, the US is certainly not small, and this happens with frightening regularity here. I don't get it either. We're likely to lose one of the great road courses in Texas, Texas World Speedway, in the next few years because of suburban sprawl (in the middle of fucking nowhere, by the way) and complaints about the noise. The complaints themselves won't be what killed the track, but the combination of complaints about the noise + the increased value of the land the track sits on due to suburban sprawl is what will wind up killing the track.

If I had a circuit near my house I'd probably be marshalling every other weekend, as it is, its a bit of a trek to the nearest (okay, not really that far in the scheme of things but far enough).

Croft survived the axe, so perhaps Mallory Park will as well.

I live about 1/2 hour away from Mallory & I'll be very sad if this closes for good. Although I suspect a dose of NIMBYs (it's not like the track sprung up last week) there have been a few horrendous traffic nightmares on some of the well attended events which probably didn't help matters.

I hope they can sort something out.
